The hunger games
-first
book of the series “The Hunger Games trilogy” followed by Catching Fire and
Mockingjay. This novel is about the life of a 16-year old girl named Katniss
Everdeen who took her sister’s place to be the District 12’s girl tribute for
the 74th Hunger Games. Peeta Mellark, a boy of her age was reaped to
be the boy tribute. Together, they face all the odds to be hailed victors as
they show Panem the “star- crossed lovers” the Capitol people enjoyed much. On
their way back to District 12, Peeta ended up to be broken hearted when Katniss
told him that the star-crossed lovers’ approach was then Haymitch’s plan to
make them both live.
Catching fire
-second
book of the award-winning novel. The story revolves around the suspected act of
rebellion specifically when Katniss and Peeta attempted to eat ‘nightlock’ on
the 74th Hunger Games when Claudius Templesmith announced that only
one tribute would be hailed as victor.
Before their Victory tour, President Snow
visited Katniss in her house at the Victors’ Village to tell her that not all
the people in Panem believed that their suicide attempt was all because of
love. Because of this, Katniss must continue being head-over-heels in love with
Peeta to save her family’s lives as well as Gale’s.
For
the Third Quarter Quell, Katniss and Haymitch were reaped as the tributes but
Peeta took Haymitch’s place to save Katniss. During their interview with Ceasar
Flickerman, Peeta told everyone that they were already married and that Katniss
was pregnant therefore giving the Capitol men a big shock. This was also the
time when Katniss, the girl on fire, transformed to be the mockingjay with
Cinna’s masterpiece.
During
the Quarter Quell, Katniss and Peeta made an alliance with Finnick and Mags
(District 4) and later with Wiress and Beetee (District 3) and Johanna
(District 7). After they managed an escape in the clock arena, Katniss found
herself lying on a hospital bed. For a thought that they were caught by the
Capitol, Katniss decided to end up Peeta’s life but all she can see is Beetee
who’s lying on a bed across hers.
Haymitch
then revealed that their escape in the arena was all Plutarch Heavensbee’s plan
to subdue the Capitol and to start an uprising. He later told Katniss that
Peeta, together with the other tributes were caught by the Capitol and is
expected to be tortured to death.
Mockingjay
-The last book of the
trilogy which merely focuses on the rebellion the District people made against
the Capitol. The story started when Katniss visited the ashes of District 12 after it was bombed by the Capitol during their escape on the 75th Hunger Games. Although the whole district was completely ruined,the Victors' Village, where Katniss' new house stood wasn't even damaged a bit. She and the other refugees from District 12 were evacuated at District 13 together with the rebels from the other Districts.
President Alma Coin told Katniss that they had rescued her because they need her to be the symbol of the rebellion,to be their Mockingjay. At first, Katniss refused but after she saw Peeta in an interview with Ceasar Flickerman, she decided to accept it to save him from President Snow's evil hands.
After uniting the 12 Districts, Peeta, together with Johanna and Annie were rescued at the Capitol. Unfortunately, Peeta's memory was hijacked by Snow replacing all his good memories with Katniss of its reverse. All he can remember is that he must kill Katniss. Because of this, Katniss and Gale became closer as Katniss thought that Peeta wouldn't be the same anymore.
After several trainings , (to make sure that they can win the war against the Capitol) Katniss,Gale, Finnick and the Squad 451 invade the Capitol for their freedom. For Katniss,to assassinate Snow.
After the bombing which has killed many Capitol children and also Katniss' sister, Prim, she became more than eager to kill snow for the thought that it was him who command it. But after her conversation with Snow in his greenhouse where he was exciled, Katniss made a clearer thought that it wasn't Snow but Coin who killed her sister for Snow and she once made a promise that they will only talk about the truth and never the lies.
During Snow's execution, Katniss assassinate Coin instead of him because she realize that Coin would be a more evil dictator than of Snow. Commander Paylor, from District 8, becme the new president of Panem.
At the epilogue of the novel,it is said that after 15 years, Katniss married Peeta and even had 2 children,a girl and a boy, who were now free from the Hunger Games. And about Gale, Katniss believed that he also have a better life from then kissing another pair of lips
